The 3 Ketes (baskets) of Knowledge contain complete wisdom. The Ketes were named Kete Aronui: meaning beneficial knowledge and that what we know, Kete Tuaauri: meaning a range of incarnations and rituals, and Kete Tuatea: meaning the darkness, knowledge of the unknown. The Manaia, represented here as a bone carving pendant, is a guardian and protects the knowledge of the baskets. 1st prize winner (James Chapman Award) in the Modern / Contemporary section at the Franklin Arts Festival, Pukekohe Auckland. Exhibited there until 20th June 2004.
